Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Prerelease Kit

The road goes ever on, and this August it leads out the front door of Bag End and straight to your table. The Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit Prerelease Kit is your first chance to play the set before it hits shelves, following Bilbo, Gandalf and the company of Dwarves from the Shire through Mirkwood to the treasure hoard beneath the Lonely Mountain.

Each kit gives you everything you need to build a 40-card sealed deck and jump straight into friendly games. Crack six Play Boosters, sort your cards, pick two colours, and battle it out. This is the first Tolkien set legal in Standard, with Adventure returning alongside new mechanics like Storied, Recruit and hone counters, plus Amass building your own Goblin armies.

FAQ

Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself. Your kit has your cards, your die and your deck box. We supply the basic lands. A playmat and sleeves are optional if you have them.

I have never played Magic. Can I still come?
Absolutely, and prerelease is the best possible place to start. Sealed puts everyone on a level footing with a brand new set, and our team will walk you through building your deck.

When and where is your event?
Wednesday 12th August 2026 at SNAPS Bridport. This falls inside the official prerelease window, so you play a full week before the set launches.

What is in the kit again?
Six The Hobbit Play Boosters, one traditional foil promo card, a deck box and a Spindown life counter die.

Is this set legal in Standard?
Yes. The Hobbit is the first Tolkien set to be Standard legal, so your cards are tournament ready, not just for casual play.

Can I buy a kit to take home instead of playing?
Yes. Reserve a take-home kit and open it with your own group. Playing in the room is more fun, but the choice is yours.
